Characteristics

  • Her mortal persona, Lillian Kardoth, is a tall redhead with gold-green eyes and medium length hair, usually showing a fair amount of skin and looking young for her age (now around 42). She favors black and green in clothing, and boots, and has an extensive weapons collection from throughout the ages that would be considered museum-quality. Her persona is quite rich, easily beyond a billionaire; a lot of this is collected wealth.
  • She apparently has no cares in the world, but this isn't true; Ares is devoted to her younger sister, Minerva, whom she makes sure is all right and sends money to occasionally. She's also quite attached to her uncle, Hades, whom she has many dealings with -- as both a God of War and a modern-day weapons manufactoror.
  • As a Vetu, Ares can incite violence around her, stirring up discord between human begins seemingly out of thin air.

  • Jupiter (father)
  • Frigg (mother)
  • Minerva (sister)
  • Baldr (brother)  [deceased]
  • Artemis (sister)
  • Hades (uncle)

  • Poseidon (uncle)
  • Odin (grandfather)
  • Gaia (grandmother)

History

Firstborn of Jupiter, and granddaughter of Odin, Ares was born to parents who lavished her with everything she wanted. Jupiter himself oversaw her training, and Ares learned every fighting style of the mortal world, including how to wield all of the known weapons. She regularly bested her father, to the pride of her mother, Frigg, and the rest of the family. When a civil squabble broke out between Vetu, it was Ares who played referree, and when a bloody battle arose, Ares dove into it headfirst. She was, from an early age, able to manipulate mortals into violence; this provided endless amusement, and still does. When her younger sister, Minerva, was born, Ares was devoted to her and taught her how to fight. It was Minerva who could persuade Ares to do anything.

Trouble formed between Jupiter and Ares -- historically, Thor and Loki -- when Odin came to visit, usually often. Ares would make snide remarks of the Vetu's venerable health (which was in appearance only), and Jupiter's vile temper would boil to the surface. It came to blows several times, with Odin calmly looking on. This culminated when Ares challenged Jupiter to prove Baldr, her younger brother's, immortality. (Frigg had made every object in the mortal world swear that it wouldn't hurt Baldr.) He bombarded his son with objects, but nothing could phase the cheerful Vetu. Finally, and historically, Ares handed Jupiter a sprig of mistletoe, which hadn't made the vow. It seemed too ridiculous that mistletoe would kill Baldr, and so Jupiter threw it as well. In the air, guided by Ares, it formed an arrow and killed Baldr.

Understandably, this was a great chasm between father and daughter, and Ares left their home and never came back -- all the while, laughing that she had bested her father's word. She continued her manipulations of mortals.

When humankind stopped believing in them, and only in Odin, Ares didn't care very much and continued her manipulations (which was against the pact signed by the other Vetu). She also created a mortal persona, Lillian Kardoth, owner of a weapons manufactoring company that would later supply to the U.S. government.

Personality

Known for being waspish, arrogant and snide in conversation. In practice, Ares has only a thin shred of honor left, and that is reserved for her sister, Minerva; any deal with Ares is a toss-up whether or not it will be honorably upheld. She will only take requests from her immediate family, unless a mortal amuses her enough, but if that person isn't her sister the request is liable to be shaky. Indeed, most of the Vetu avoid her entirely, uncertain of where her loyalties lie. Ruthless and cunning, Ares only has time for herself and her devoted followers, the violent of the mortal world.

Likes/dislikes

Her dislikes are a shorter list -- she dislikes pacifists, and anything else that conflicts with her violent and indulgent ways.

Fears

Nothing seems to phase her. Even losing her little sister, her most cherished family member, would only enrage her.
