History.
Gage Harrison was born to Dennis and Katie Harrison, two scientists who worked for an electronic superpower company, Jade Switch Enterprises. They were a stable element in his life and provided the best education possible for their son, although they were a tad on the workaholic side. His childhood friend was mainly his nanny, Maria Rodriguez, who introduced him to the world of private investigation through junior novels. Gage was fascinated. When he announced, at the age of eighteen, that he was going to be a private investigator his parents were less then thrilled; Dennis, in particular, had wanted him to be a scientist and follow his parents’ footsteps.
When he was arrested for trespassing—on a case—at the age of twenty-two, his parents bailed him out but refused to talk to him or do anything with him. Maria had disappeared a year earlier, and her abusive husband hadn’t given any details. He’s tried to have relationships but these early catastrophes have set him back psychologically, and he isn’t able to open up very easily. There was one serious girlfriend when he was thirty-two, a woman named Veronica Dallas, but she left him as well, even though he proposed to her, utterly taken with the woman; he had half convinced himself to finally open up.
Personality.
To all appearances, Gage is blunt, cold, and uncaring. No one is quite sure why he is a private investigator, if he doesn’t care. But Gage is so brilliant at his job, with an uncanny talent for human intuition, that they never question it to his face. Truth of the matter is, Gage’s aloof personality is a façade; every human contact he’s ever had has left him, so he’s adopted a cruel personality to drive people away. The “real” Gage is, in truth, rather sensitive and very, very caring and empathic, which is his unconscious driving force as he solves his cases. His favorite animals are any kind of insect, which, to his mind, further accents the ‘nasty guy’ appearance.
