History.

Born Irenmund Cotter in Sweden, son of a then-famous Viking warrior who died when his son was nearing adulthood. Irenmund was put in his place on the battlefield without much choice. He didn't become as infamous in battle as his father, but he did become a renouned diplomat and was very crafty when it counted; this led to his nickname among his fellows, "Irenmund the Clever." At the age of twenty-six, however, he was killed in battle during a raid when a cursed sword was shoved through his chest. He wasn't given a funeral, as his fellows had to retreat immediately to save themselves. This led to him both rising from the dead, and being cursed as a draugr by the blade that killed him.

Immediately after rising, he was almost incapable of coherent thought and killed everyone in the vicinity as a raving monster. He found the man who had killed him and slew him and his family, taking the cursed sword. For a time, he wandered the countryside and slowly came back to himself, but when he had recalled his identity and where he'd come from, the sword's curse would not let him see his family ever again. (They were also long dead.)

Dejected, he wandered for yet another long period of time, mostly likely centuries, barely talking to anyone and folding in on himself. And then he wandered into Paris and happened upon an art gallery, and his fate was sealed: he wanted to paint. Though he did not need to eat, which freed up expenses, he didn't really have a job as most people got a bad "vibe" while around him. He changed his name to Jean Parriere and got a job looking after horses, which were decidedly nervous around him -- but tolerated him. His boss was Mr. Claudel, the only name he knew the man by, and very gradually he was accepted almost as a family member. The man's daughter, Isabelle, was quite taken with him and they were married a year or so after he'd begun working.

Around this time, his patience paid off as he finally began to afford art supplies, which confused his wife. She didn't consider it a good way to spend the money, but he wouldn't hear of it; he went off once a week to have lessons with a reclusive painter, Lucard. Irenmund wasn't a great artist, but he was learning fast and Lucard -- his physical senior by 20 years -- told him to basically ignore Isabelle and keep painting. But eventually Irenmund suspected that Lucard just wanted to spend more time with him. That suspicion was correct, for two months later the man attempted to seduce him -- and he didn't resist.

Things grew tense in the household as Isabelle started to suspect something was going on, although she thought it was some other woman. One night at dinner, she asked if Irenmund would paint her, and, gritting his teeth, he agreed. He asked Lucard the day after what he thought he should do about the situation, and the (rather deranged) painter idly suggested -- possibly jokingly -- that she be "removed from the picture" so they could live together. This confused Irenmund greatly, as he loved Isabelle and Lucard equally, but eventually he decided this was the right course of action. When he returned home, he put his wife into a painting pose and then drove a sword through her chest. As he had promised to paint her, he did so, carefully obscuring her face and removing the sword. He disposed of her body by burying her in her mother's vegetable garden.

But the whole situation, instead of "fixed", just confused him and so -- to Lucard's dismay -- he left Paris behind to wander again. He set up a more permanent residency in Russia, masquerading as just another ordinary citizen. He continued to kill and paint the bodies, having rather enjoyed the first time, but he didn't do anything with these until 1850 when he started to send them to art galleries under various names. Most of the galleries were horrified by the gore but a few of them were gutsy and bought them; his business didn't take off until about 1950, 100 years later, when galleries were no longer so censored and had learned to appreciate the (mostly rather tasteful, now) gore.

In 1965 he took on the name of Lobo Byrum and moved to America, but started signing the paintings under the name Ian Carter. During the years since Isabelle and Lucard, he has taken countless lovers and married two wives. When he "came clean" to his last wife -- he refuses to speak her name -- she realized he was serious and, pregnant as she was, killed herself and the infant rather than be married to an "abomination." Werewolf -- as his painting fans nicknamed him, for the supernatural quality of his work -- was devastated, as this was to be his first child, and to this day has a tense relationship with women, choosing mostly male lovers. Women find themselves his victims. He actually kept the body of his last wife; it remains in the basement of his home, along with the baby's newborn skeleton that he took directly from her stomach out of sheer anger.

During the Ley scandal in Germany, Irenmund went to go stay with a family who has often been his only constant friend, the Verlaines. He assisted the current head of House, Sylvie Verlaine; she is one of the few women he can stand to talk to, and be around. Mostly because the two are evenly matched, in terms of outright power.

Personality.

To others he is relaxed, charming, fairly quiet but with an easy sense of humor. When he wants to, he can use his heritage to be incredibly eloquent in words and speech, although he doesn't usually do it as people accuse him of being "insanely pompous." When by himself, however, the draugr aspect of his personality takes hold and he can become completely unfocused fury and wrath. This is what he always seeks to keep under wraps when in the company of others.

Likes/dislikes.

He likes heavy metal music, panting, horses, clothes, expensive things (the hoarding aspect of his dragon-like draugr heritage), sex, precious metals, dirt and grime. He dislikes falling in love, though he does so at the drop of a hat (possibly why he doesn't like it), being poor, and loud-mouthed people.

Fears.

Even though he's immune to them, Werewolf/Irenmund is fearful of swords, as whenever he sees one all he can think of is the day he died.
