Characteristics
- Her prematurely greying hair, once jet black, has for the moment tapered off to a middle-grey tone. It matches her eyes, blue-grey, which look weary and have dark shadows around them from lack of restful sleep; indeed, the dark around them looks almost stained, unnatural, an erosion. She wears only simple clothing and, since the place she goes to in her sleep is both freezing and humid, she prefers layers. Magnan is skinnier than she should be from malnourishment -- due to the things she's seen, she's not fond of food, as it brings back bad memories. Though she looks a bit like a waif, she's very, very strong; her encounters with horrifying creatures, encounters she's won, have given her both strength and endurance training.
- In an M&M setting: Magnan's latent mental abilities, which phase her to the Underworld and back every night, have deposited her on another Earth until she completes a task. This is believed to be the work of the Vetu known as Nyx, her great-great-great grandmother. Magnan cannot harness these mental powers at all; she refers to them as "reins" which the Vetu use. Upon arriving on this alternate world she picked up a small job as a watch repairman, knowledgable in gears and small pieces of delicate equipment. She received this knowledge previously, from living in her psychiatric institute, out of boredom.
Family
- Thomas Keith (father)
- Marilyn Duncan (mother)
- Bacchus (great grandfather)
- Julia Keith (great grandmother)
History.
Magnan lived an uneventful life in Nevada with her parents, Thomas Keith, a respected cop, and Marilyn Keith (previously Duncan), a schoolteacher -- until the age of 13, when she was orphaned. Her father had refused to cooperate with a gang's demands, and they shot both Thomas and Marilyn, and would have come after Magnan if a mysterious stranger hadn't disarmed her attacker first. (This stranger turned out to be the Vetu, Artemis, a distant cousin of sorts.) She was taken in by her godmother, a friend of Marilyn's named Kiera Owens, who worked as a fashion model. But after just two months, Magnan was discovered attempting to stab herself in the face with a kitchen knife and was moved into a comfortable psychiatric institute. Grieving the loss of her parents hard, Magnan was suicidal for two years before surrendering to pure apathy. If not for occasional strange behavior, doctors would have easily considered releasing her.
She was going to be released and declared sane at the age of 22 (the apathy had taken such hold that she barely moved), when, through a very sensitive mind, she perceived the warnings of the ancient Vetu Erebus, her great-great-great grandfather. The warnings illustrated themselves by taking her subconscious to Tartarus in the Underworld, where the remaining three Titans had lavished for thousands of years, tortured to death and reborn every day. Their spawn, horrifying creatures barely imaginable, would soon push up to the surface, as there was so many it was like a slithering maw of bodies. This warning was also perceived by Ares (except that she and Hades had planned the whole thing), who arrived at the institute when they found Magnan screaming her head off in bed, covered in blood.
Ares pretended to be a distant relation of Magnan's who had come to claim her, removing her from the institute and bringing her to the rest of the Vetu. This she did, thinking that Magnan's warning would come too late for anyone to stop her plan. But Ares would be surprised by her distant relation.
Personality
Often apathetic, but sometimes prone to hysteria by the sight of blood (which shortly becomes a killing spree if necessary), Magnan was diagnosed with both schizophrenia and depression. Her doctors had no idea that most of her insanity comes from the trickling, soft voices that she heard from Erebus long before she shared his nightmares. When separated from Erebus long enough, usually through tranquilizers, Magnan can become quite sane and reasonable. When she's hearing his voice, however, she tends to zone out and mumble what he's saying -- giving the appearance of perfect madness. Personably, she has a dark sense of humor, but genuinely likes people and tries to help them as much as possible -- a trait her parents cultivated in her.
Likes/dislikes
Is a big fan of comic books, as these were allowed into her institute when she sent for them. But thanks to her many years in the institute, she's familiar with little else, although some television she knows. She tends to be clueless about a lot of things due to her isolation.
Fears
Though it cannot be classified as a phobia, Magnan hates the sight of blood; she was showered with it when her mother was shot in the head right next to her. When splashed with it in the Underworld, usually every night, she flies into a killing frenzy.
