  • Profession: Hitman / Assassin / etc.

Characteristics.

  • Often leaves behind the Latin calling card of "Aegrescit medendo," which means The remedy is worse than the disease. It is in reference to the Network.
  • Lightly muscled but careful not to be bulky, Mirage has a lean figure that is deceptively strong. He has two tattoos, a celtic design around his right upper arm, and a large chinese dragon on his back. Most think he has this due to the great assortment of mobs in various countries that he occasionally partakes with. He is very fond of sharp, dressy wear. Also, hidden pockets.
  • He enjoys a cigarette or a cigar now and then, but he wouldn't be considered a smoker; the tabacco does nothing for him.

Family.

  • Vietr Nemesio (father)
  • Rose Delgado (mother)

History.

Mirage's father, Vietr, was a well-known assassin in certain groups; to the outside world at large he was a shadowy enigma, a creature of legend, more than just a man. But he was a man, and eventually he fell in love with a small-town girl in Spain: Rose Delgado. They didn't marry, but he took her away with him when he returned back to his home in Mexico. They lived there for a month before Rose realized that she was pregnant. She expected Vietr to abandon her, but he didn't, staying with her during the entire pregnancy -- although he still did not ask her to marry him. While he didn't explain it to her, in his mind the lack of connection would help to protect the child from those that would like to see him quietly dead.

Their continuingly brilliant love was not to be, as Rose died during childbirth. The baby boy was healthy and extremely quiet. Previously they had discussed names, and so in honor of Rose's death, Vietr named the child in the way that she had wanted: Blade. A person, she said, to be shaped by his father as sharp and keen.

But Vietr was, unfortunately, heartbroken. Blade grew up in a stoic household with not even a nursemaid for extra encouragement or warmth, much less emotional development. He learned a lot of life skills on his own. From his father, he learned stealth, how to restrain, how to kill and how to poison; he learned how to keep his body in as optimal a shape as possible; he learned how to listen instead of speak, and how to know what the words in a conversation were really trying to tell you. Despite the tenuous, sometimes tense relationship with his father, Blade learned to love him and the life lessons that he provided.

When Blade was at the age of 16, Vietr's enemies caught up with his little remote home. He weakened them as best he could so that Blade could dispatch them and live, but they poisoned his wounds. Even as Blade killed all four of the would-be killers before his eyes, Vietr grew 'sleepy' and closed his eyes, never opening them again.

There was money around -- always had been -- but Blade was unsure of what to do. He started out as a message-carrying boy for the mob, using the skills his father taught him to stay alive and keep out of major trouble. Eventually one of his peers, a hitman who only gave the name of Fidio, noticed his talent and took the boy under his wing. His father had taught him to use his body as a weapon, but the seasoned hitman taught him the use of guns and many other weapons. At 21, Blade took on a different name to protect the memory of his father, and to protect himself; to make the circle complete he named himself after the memory of his mother, as Roman Delgado.

It was a few years later, when he had gained some good press in the crime business, that he heard about the Arachnid Network. Having a mostly apathetic relationship with governments and world order, Roman decided to give them a try. Mostly, he just wanted a challenge. While Maverick accepted him into the midst, he was aware that she kept an eye on him. He took on his third name, a codename: Mirage.

As most of the Network were the ragtags of society, Roman was easily the most trained, and he and Maverick were the keen ones. He tried to stay away from Canine as much as he could, but as they and Maverick were at the top of the food chain, that wasn't possible most of the time. During this time he started a relationship -- his first real thing resembling a relationship -- with one of the young women of the Network, a crazy ballistics expert named Kaliber. Subsequently he realized that he was, in fact, gay.

After many years, the challenge had disappeared; he could easily tiptoe his way around authorities and the strategy held no thrill. But since the Network (really, Maverick) didn't look so kindly on people just backing out of it after such a long membership, much less people at the very top, he knew that he had to do it "with style." This meant putting the Americana Team in a fatal situation and leaving them there. Understandably from their point of view, he was labeled as public enemy number one, even though the team managed to survive.

Freelancing again, he went back into pure crime, relishing in his sudden freedom and lack of all responsibility. All he would have to do is watch out for the Network, and anyone who knew the Nemesio family name and what, exactly, it meant.

Personality.

Usually, Mirage is purposefully bland and dry, and a bit blunt -- almost disconcertingly so. Since he wasn't taught by his father to be gentle in any way or fashion, in social situations he can flounder a little. But you can bet a lot of money on the fact that he just won't care. When absolutely required, he can dip into what acting training he's had and be almost drop-dead smooth and charming, which he often has to do for his more expensive clientelle. He's also patient to the point of Sainthood, at times, which is just about his best quality.

Likes/dislikes.

Likes the occasional smoke and drink, reading, being somewhere quiet, hole-in-the-wall places, keeping on top of things, not being idle. Dislikes loud or screeching people, people with no patience, Jack Daniels, feeling involuntarily emotional.

Fears.

His world collapsing around him.
