 Obsidian (Katelyn Silev).

Basic Information.

  • Gender: Female
  • Race: Human
  • Height: 6'2"
  • Age: 1010
  • Hair: Black
  • Eyes: Black
  • Profession: Head of Citadel
  • Title: "Lady of Citadel"
  • Birthday: November 3rd
  • Word: Instinctual
  • Heterosexual.

Characteristics.

  • Part "cyborg" -- machine -- steadily growing more and more to a machine.
  • Genius-level intelligence.
  • Doomist, but with an affection for her "new order."
  • Hates other human beings, but not on the sociopathic level.
  • Short black hair, and black eyes that seem almost devoid of life unless she's angry. One of those eyes is a cybernetic "screen" implant, but it looks real enough that you have to look closely to see that it isn't a real eye. Her legs, feet, hands and arms are all metal as well, but these are grafted with fake skin, so they too look real. The only things obviously out of the ordinary is a long metal tail that ends in a gripping claw, and a smaller version of the tail that extends from one of her forearms. Usually the smaller one is wrapped around her arm. Poking out of the tail are little injection needles that she can load whatever compound she wants into, if she needs to fight something. It's a quick way to end a fight.

Family.

  • Henry Silev (father)
  • Delia Silev (mother)
  • Mali Simmons-Silev (adopted sister)
  • Obsidian was once engaged, to a man named Nick Solloway, but she didn't like him very much and it was just to further her plans for Citadel, as Nick's father was the wealthy owner of a chemical company. Over the past years she has unknowingly convinced herself that he "just couldn't survive" beside her, that he was weak and abandoned her, and that she was madly in love with him. The reason for this is probably because of loneliness.

History.

Her father was mostly abusive to her, but doted on Mali, and her mother was much the same way. Though she was older and much more intelligent, they consistently favored Mali even when Katelyn managed to get into some of the most exclusive schools in the world on sheer willpower. Very resentful of this, very, Katelyn dedicated herself to her studies and the parts of her family that still loved her. She had an uncle, David Silev, who was a park ranger and she spent what vacations away from school that she had with him, after the age of nineteen when she no longer felt wanted at home. Mali made many pleas for her to come back, and though Katelyn loved her sister dearly at that time, she couldn't stand her parents enough to do so.

Then, during a violent protest at the national park where David worked, her uncle was killed. PETA was in charge of the riot. Her anger, slow-burning before, exploded and she pushed herself to desperate plans. She hated the state of the world, and confessed this one night on the phone with her sister. She had intended afterwards to start a path to self-destruction, but one that would leave a mark on the world. But Mali convinced her not to do it, and to seek other means. Katelyn came up with the plans for Citadel right there on the phone; Mali, knowing her sister and knowing that she wasn't joking, asked seriously if she could take part in the plans.

Using a wide variety of contacts gained at the schools, and jobs, she had worked at, Katelyn took on a nickname that Mali had given her -- Obsidian (because she was "dark and sharp as a knife") -- and put things into action. She came up with the plans for the Green Machine, a wonder that would "recycle" air and filter out pollution to prevent greenhouse gases from getting worse. In reality, the Green Machine would be exploited to unload a massive amount of toxin into the air that would kill any multi-celled organism, save plants, that breathed it in. To her delight, the idea was latched onto by the Rabe Corporation, Dagny Rabe's company, and given assurances by her husband, the legendary John Hauri of Switzerland. She had been paranoid that the intelligent man would see through her plan -- but he wasn't mechanically inclined and missed what few hints there were.

Green machines were set up in most of the major countries around the world. To save what people she wanted to, Obsidian then began taking advantage of the riots and chaos that the toxin brought to round them up. She knocked them out and deposited them into another invention she'd been working on: the cryochamber. It was a way of almost-indefinite preservation, although she knew there would be large flaws (memory loss, brain abnormalties, etc). When the trouble had mostly died down around her, Dagny started up her third and last invention: the mechanical drone. The drone, which could flawlessly duplicate itself and build another drone faster than she could, would be her key to setting up Citadel, building the new structures, and getting rid of the last unwanted members of the population.

There was one flaw in the plan that was a fluke -- Mali, whom she'd encased in a cryochamber, began to suddenly die and for no apparent reason. Panicking, Obsidian saved her DNA, but was unable to save her actual sister. She lived in grief for fifty years before, with great reluctance, she cloned her sister back to life. She kept the body preserved so that the DNA wouldn't dilute over the generations of clones, although she did so guiltily; her last shred of humanity was not yet gone. It was when she cloned Mali for the third time, never telling the girls that they were clones, that she finally succumbed to the inevitable and started looking at everything in a very, dare we say, very machine-like fashion.

Personality.

Obsidian is very emotional, instinctual, and full of paranoia and anxiety. But she also has anger in no small amount, anger which often seizes her at unfortunate times and controls her entirely until it burns off. This is mostly why she has had 17 drone commanders to date: she destroyed all the others in fits of annoyance and wrath. Due to her ancient organic age, though she is mostly machine these days, Obsidian's mind has started the very slow process of breaking down; she is prone to forget things, and re-remember them, in a way that would embaress a goldfish. She prefers flailing and hissing when under great mental strain or distress. Obsidian is not forgiving in the slightest and can barely tolerate someone who doesn't show an intelligence on the same level as her own -- high standards indeed, even in her current state.

Likes/dislikes.

She loves controlling things, most of all, making sure that things go the way she wants them to. Nature -- she adores nature. She also loves power and giving orders that creatures follow, even though, in the case of drones, it's just what they're designed to do. In a similar vein, and predictably, she hates disobedience and complications, as well as naturally freedom-minded humans.

Fears.

The only thing she fears is something happening to the new life she has helped the world to create. A fire in her Citadel's jungle, for instance, or her greenhouse. She hates seeing animals suffer and is quietly fearful of people who can make them suffer without guilt, though she would kill this sort of person in an instant rather than be afraid of them.
