Ley lines exist in the Earth that imbue certain families' homes with powers that manifest in their children. These are jealously guarded, academically bickered over, and are greedily hidden from the rest of the world. However, the greed has a purpose, because "Normals" have often killed ley families over suspicions of witchcraft. Now Cinder Serafini, barely old enough to leave her mother's side, must face the fact that her father has been murdered -- and understand her place in this strange dynamic of old money, old charms, and old prejudices.
