Spider's Silk / Calvaria.
1999.
That Y2K virus that was supposed to shut everyone down?
Well, it did; it knocked world communications off the map for a full three days before everything came online again. While that happened, a terrorist organization known as the Arachnid Network -- named for its spider-like stealth and secrecy -- assassinated the President of the United States. Vice President Nero Prowler, a weak and sheepish little man picked only for his knowledge in foreign policy, took his place. One or two countries, also in the 2000 new year's eve mess, fired on each other; the US regarded one of the countries as an ally and reacted in a hostile manner to the other; chaos enveloped world politics, and the Network took full advantage of it.
The only hope for peace, and reprimation of the Network, was an FBI agent who had once been a prisoner of the Network, a woman named Mara Balton who was nursing a grudge against the head of the Network, a woman known only as Maverick. Balton's team took to the information waves, determined to track all of the Network agents down, even if it meant possible investigation into President Prowler's questionable history.
