Variel has a strong, but definitely petite, face, with very full lips and big eyes. She's somewhere between slender and full-figured, an ambiguous image that usual lends itself to people describing her as "rounded." This is by no means a confirmation that she is overweight; she is always, enviably, in tip-top shape -- unusually for a woman who technically doesn't have to be. She wears her hair long, but pulled into a ponytail when working. Her outfit is befitting of someone in as chaotic as a social position as her, half religious figure and half scientist, with a high-collared black coat, black slacks, knee-high and often muddy leather boots, and usually a white scarf haphazardly around her neck. She always wears a gold St. Christopher's medal around her neck.

History.

Variel grew up in a very remote town, and her experiences were not kind to her during her early life; her family was always facing some kind of hardship, whether it be from the cold, her father always losing jobs, or her brother joining a gang when she was eight. She and her mother were especially close, often pitted against brother and father during fights, especially over the (to them) insane desire to move to a large city for better protection. They ended up leaving together, she and her mother, after a particularily bitter fight. Arriving in the nearby big city of Collingsworth, her mother took up a job as a seamstress and they scraped together a meager living; they lived in a small attic that Variel looked back on with affection, as it had many nooks and crannies that were perfect for a young girl.

At the age of fifteen, the recruiting drive for the military hit. She was considered not strong enough to be a regular soldier, too cheeky enough to be any sort of office aid, and too smart to do grunt work; however, her country's scientists discovered that she had a hyperactive immune system and had never been sick. They took her away from her mother and introduced her to the new, very controverial "werewolf" serum. Unlike the other test subjects, who had all died, Variel survived her first innoculations and lived through her first change. The government intended these "werewolves" as tank-like super soldiers in combat, and as intimidation. However she killed every scientist in the test building, and escaped. When she changed back to normal, she ran in horror to her mother, who suggested that she find her brother's gang -- now rebels against the country -- and look for an antidote from their country's enemies. During that night, the military struck their apartment, and as Variel escaped through the window they killed her mother... as an "example."

Fuming with hatred now, Variel located the resistence, but they took her in very hesitatingly when she admitted she couldn't control the change and lost her mind when she was in her other form. A half-scientist half-preacher with them, knowing how intelligent she was, helped her to come up with a dosage that could help her keep her mind while changed; jokingly he called it "wolfsbane", but it was in actuality a complex string of medications and chemicals, not just a plant. Now that she was "sane" again, he started to teach her other things as well, and she was eager to learn, mastering the sciences with a tenacity that impressed even him. She was able to come up with many cures, but her ultimate search, the search for a "werewolf" antidote, always came up empty-handed.

Personality.

She often seems perpetually tired, but this is because of all of the biological strain that her system goes through, not a thread of her actual personality. Variel has a snarky sense of humor, is very quick-thinking, and she usually prefers to always find logic in a situation -- to explain things through science. She is by no stretch of the imagination a "damsel in distress" -- mess with her and you'll get burned. Mess with her friends, who she is utterly loyal to, and you'll wish you'd never been born. If she has any "superpower," it would be her superhuman determination and unwillingness to back down.

Likes/dislikes.

Dislikes being cold, cold food, vegetables (they remind her of the rotten ones she had to eat as a kid), and especially people who won't open their eyes to see the truth (so to speak). She loves blankets and fires, carnage (side effect of the serum), learning new things, and helping others. She also adores rice pudding.
